July 16, 2010 President's Message
Good morning members and happy Friday!
This morning's email is going to look a lot like the one I sent out a couple of weeks ago. But we have a lot going on right now and many things that just need to be addressed and reminders that need to be sent as deadlines approach.
First and foremost on my mind is the GLPA 30th Anniversary Luncheon which will be on June 29 at the Hilton Lexington Downtown Hotel & Conference Center. If you have not sent in your reservation, please do so immediately as Jessica needs to give them a final count next week. The invitation is attached for your convenience. Please email Jessica and let her know that you are coming and your meal choice. The payment can then be mailed.
Remember that we are collecting donations at the Luncheon of back-to-school supplies for area children. Anyone making a donation will be eligible for a special doorprize drawing.
We are also giving away a PACE Scholarship. The application is attached and should be submitted as soon as possible.
We are still looking for photos from the past 30 years for the Luncheon. Please contact me or Jessica if you have any to share.
The Spring edition of Paraphrases was supposed to have gone out last week. However, it is apparently caught in the listserv somewhere. We are working with the hosting companyt to get that resolved and hope to have it out to you very soon. Please accept our apologies for the delay.
As I have mentioned before, the first Kentucky Certified Paralegal Exam will be given after the Kentucky Paralegal Association Annual Conference in November. In order to allow time to prepare, the study guide is on the KPA website and accessible to all paralegals, not only members of the KPA. If you are interested in taking the exam, please visit the website at www.kypa.org.
NFPA nominations are open until August 8. If you are interested in either serving or nominating someone else, the 2011 openings for 2 year terms are up for consideration: President, Vice President and Director of Positions & Issues, Vice President and Director of PACE, and Secretary and Director of Operations. The Region III Director is open for a one year term and there are many coordinator positions open as well. If you would like more information, please contact Lee Williams or Mary Hackworth or visit the NFPA website at www.paralegals.org.
One last reminder and request, in my last biweekly email I had asked for input regarding the use of the Harvard Bluebook for citations. Helen Bongard at Sullivan University is interested in our input. I have had a couple of responses. If you have not responded, please take a moment to reply and let me know if you use this resource. She is trying to determine how much emphasis to put on this and it would be very helpful to have insight from those of us that are working in the field.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and when my next biweekly email comes to you, the Anniversary Luncheon will be a warm memory and so we shall take a trip back down the lane of newsletter memories. Take care!
Lisha
